Description: Each day, children with hearing loss attend early childhood programs. Learn how to identify who they are. Join us for a webinar on improving the quality of hearing screening practices for children ages birth to 5.

Topics for the webinar include:

  • How hearing screening relates to the overall goals of Head Start
  • Current evidence-based practice recommendations for hearing screening with children birth to 5
  • An overview of Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) screening for all children and available resources to support implementation
  • Resources that support quality implementation of Pure Tone Screening for programs using this method with children birth to 5 years of age
  • Recommended follow-up protocol for when children do not pass the hearing screening
  • Information about equipment options and costs
  • How to find a local audiologist to assist in program development, training, and diagnostic services
  • Resources and opportunities that are available for training and technical assistance

The ICC-Recommended Early  Early Start Personnel Manual (ESPM) describes core knowledge and role-specific competencies needed for early intervention service provision, incorporating current research and evidence in the field of early intervention. To access the ESPM, CLICK HERE.

This resource is related to the following ESPM knowledge-level competencies:

  • Identification and Referral (IR) Competencies:
    • IR3 (EIA): Is aware of the referral process for Early Start and other public services. 
    • IR4 (EIA): Knows resource options for services and supports (other than Early Start) in the country/area of residence.
  • Evaluation and Assessment (EA) Competencies:
    • EA8 (EIA): Is aware of the connection between assessment information and the development of appropriate interventions.
